ANTONIO SEQUEIRA is a London-based Portuguese award-winning writer/director, whose films have participated in a number of high-profile Academy Award Qualifying festivals. Recently, he was named ‘25 Screenwriters to Watch’ by ‘Moviemaker’ magazine and selected to the ZFF Academy.
In 2026, he wrote and co-directed the romantic drama ‘A Night in Porto’ starring Daniela Melchior and Corey Mylchreest.
‘Autumn’ was his debut feature based on a script that was developed at the Torino Film Lab. As a work-in-progress, the film was selected to the “Goes to Cannes” section of the Marché du Film in the ‘Cannes Festival’, and eventually won the Audience Award at the ‘Austin Film Festival’. At the end of 2023, ‘Autumn’ opened nationwide in cinemas in Portugal, being critically and commercially successful, and receiving a nomination to the Sophia Awards by the Portuguese Academy of Cinema. In 2024, it was distributed by HBO Max, where it remained on the Top 10 Movies for 20 days in the streaming platform. It was also distributed in the US, UK, Canada and Ireland, and it will arrive to Latin America in 2027.
Antonio has also directed the limited series ‘Instaverse’ for Portuguese broadcaster, RTP.
As a screenwriter, he has sold a few screenplays, including ‘Millennials’ (now in development at Ginger Pictures) and ‘Concrete’ (currently a Quarter-Finalist at the PAGE International Screenwriting Awards).
He is also the founder of film production company Movie Monkeys and recently co-founded Kurious Studios with producer Steven Flynn and recurring creative partner, Anastasiia Vorotniuk.
Antonio is a graduate of the London Film School and a member of BAFTA.
